Tutoring Disclaimer
Last updated: July 14, 2026
We're proud of our results, and we're honest about what tutoring is. This page says plainly what we promise and what we don't.
No guaranteed outcomes
We do not guarantee any specific SAT score, score increase, percentile, or college admission result. SAT performance depends on many factors we don't control: the student's starting point, the time they put into practice between sessions, test-day conditions, and the test itself. Any tutoring service that guarantees a number is selling something other than tutoring.
What our scores mean
The SAT scores our tutors advertise (1560, 1540, 1580) are the tutors' own test results. They are credentials — evidence that we know the test we teach — not a promise or prediction of what any student will score. Averages or example score gains mentioned on this site describe past students and don't predict individual results.
A supplement, not a substitute
Tutoring supplements schoolwork; it doesn't replace it. Students are expected to keep up with their regular coursework, and the reading and math foundations built in school are what tutoring sharpens. Upshot is an independent business and is not affiliated with or endorsed by the College Board, which administers the SAT and does not endorse tutoring services.
Educational advice only
What we provide in sessions, plans, and parent notes is educational guidance based on our experience. Decisions about course selection, test dates, and college applications remain yours.
